PROGRAMS AND EVENTS

The Historic O'Neil Farm board recognizes and understands the importance of offering fun-filled, developmentally appropriate learning experiences for young children, as well as, programs that will allow older children a rare hand-on experience on a dairy farm.  It is with enthusiasm, careful thought and commitment that the board will explore and develop opportunities for future programming as we work toward our goal of providing agricultural educational opportunities for people of all ages.   As programs and events are developed information, sign-up, and schedules will be posted.

Summer Walks and Talks for Preschoolers

We are looking forward to offering a pre-school summer program again the 2012 Summer.   Stay tuned for scheduling and sign-up information.

Summer of 2011, under the professional direction of pre-school teacher and historic O'Neil Farm board member, Priscilla O'Neil, the farm completed the first in a series of educational pilot programs for children.  Complementing the farm's Walks and Talks Program for adults, this first series consisted of three identical sessions which were attended by children of preschool and kindergarten ages.  Enrollment was limited.  Each session lasted ninety minutes. Each session included a barn tour, craft (clothespin cow), hands-on visit with a baby calf and a "child-style" group effort to write "The story of O'Neil Farm."  There was a brief gathering which provided the children an opportunity to learn additional facts of information about cows. Children were invited to make a drawing to illustrate their story and/or their experience at the farm. An informational handout went home with each child.
